Video Stroboscopy Compared with High-Speed Films of Pathological Vocal Folds
نویسنده
چکیده
Background: Video stroboscopy has been the only way to visualize vocal fold movement for more than 50 years. Now we can capture the true movement of the vocal folds with high-speed recordings. Objective: A prospective randomized study was made to show if high speed films gave supplementary information that was better than video stroboscopy for diseases of the laryngeal function. Method: Randomized treatments planned on high speed films compared with treatment plans based on video stroboscopy were made. Results: There were interesting differences between the treatments in the way that video stroboscopy indicated voice training and cortisone where on high speed films such indications was not found. Conclusion: As in other fields, evidence based focus is on the genetic – mucosal vocal function. Correction of behavior models was found only to be supplementary.

INTRODUCTION In a group of persons using the voice occupationally, the frequent symptoms are hoarseness, voice fatigability and aphonia. Pathological changes in the larynx may have organic or functional character which require different methods of treatment and rehabilitation. Visualization of vibrations of the vocal folds is an essential condition for an appropriate assessment of the causes of...

In this paper we present novel approaches for the computer aided diagnosis of leukoplakia on the vocal folds based on video endoscopic images of the larynx. The approaches applied for the classification of the vocal fold surface tissue are texture analysis methods, which have been enhanced to use spatial information as well as color information in one combined color texture approach. The multis...
متن کاملObjective vocal fold vibration assessment from videokymographic images
Vocal folds oscillation crucially influences all the basic qualities of voice, such as pitch and loudness, as well as the spectrum. Stroboscopy provides the standard view of the larynx. Videokymography is a new diagnostic tool developed to overcome specific limitations of stroboscopy in severely dysphonic patients with an aperiodic signal. It registers the movements of the vocal folds with a hi...

OBJECTIVE Although high-speed imaging (HSI) has been identified as a valuable tool in phonatory biomechanics research, to date, there have only been a selected number of reports investigating the clinical utility of HSI. We aim to elucidate the role of HSI in the diagnosis of the dysphonic patient. METHODS The video files from 28 consecutive dysphonic patients with concurrently acquired video...

Laryngeal high-speed videoendoscopy is a state-of-the-art technique to examine physiological vibrational patterns of the vocal folds. With sampling rates of thousands of frames per second, high-speed videoendoscopy produces a large amount of data that is difficult to analyze subjectively. In order to visualize high-speed video in a straightforward and intuitive way, many methods have been propo...
